Description:

In the 19th century, Alejandra Martinez’ great grandmother was in charge of maintenance of a small farm in the Vera Cruz countryside. Many years later, in 1950, her grandfather Antonio Martinez Ruiz inherited the farm. He then bought Coatepec, the farm which currently comprises most of the coffee growing area in Finca Trebolillos. Alejandra Martinez Gama started helping her father, who also worked in the farm, in 2011. That same year, the farm dedicated nine acres of land to the production of organic coffee. In 2014, their organic coffee won 5th place in the cup of excellence competition, encouraging Alejandra’s father to convert the rest of the farm towards organic practices. In the year of 2015, many of the coffee shrubs in the farm were coffee rust disease, which it was able to combat with soil nutrition. They currently produce 50% less than they did before the disease attacked. In 2016, Alejandra was introduced to biodynamic practices at the Biodynamic Meeting of Mexico and the following year of 2017 saw her farm using biodynamic practices
